Submission TitleLiving with Place: The Burger Hut

Short Description (for preview in feed)

Everyone lives in a place, but not everyone lives with place. To live with place is to live with a deep sense of connection to your surroundings. Your home, your neighborhood, your town is not just the place you chose to live, but it is apart of who you are. You belong to it. You contribute. You know it. I desire to live with a deeper sense of place in Round Rock. It’s hard to live with place in the suburbs, but I want to try. I hope you will too. So, I’m sharing stories of people from my life who live with place.

Full Description

The Burger Hut

You want a pancake the size of your face? Dorris will cook you one. Or how about a chili cheeseburger basket? Will that be with onion rings or fires? Chicken strips, chicken fried steak, or a grilled chicken club? On Fridays you can get fried catfish if you get there before 7. The Burger Hut sure will fill you up, but it won't be quick.

If you expect to place your order, get your food, be on your way in 30-40 minutes, you best not dine at the Burger Hut. You will find a table in no time, that's not the problem. And Mrs. Linda will be over with her notepad within a minutes; that's not the problem either. Getting your order isn't her first priority because the Burger Hut is a place with place.

"Drinkin' tea honey?", she will ask.

Followed by, "how's your mama?"

"And your Daddy?"

"How about you honey? How's school going?"

"Well that's great to hear. You keep makin' it out there, honey. But be sure to keep coming back here to visit".

After I smile and say, "yes ma'am,I  sure will", Mrs. Linda will grab her notepad out of her apron and give her pen a click.

"Whatcha eaten' today?", she asks.
