Full Description
This morning I got together with Brett Mcdonald from Central Baptist Church in Round Rock. For a week or two we had been throwing out ideas for this song. One of the emails he sent me last week said this," There's a thought I can't get out of my head from Tim Keller's "Reason for God":
"A man once said he'd be happy to believe in Christianity if the pastor could give him a watertight argument for its truth. The pastor replied, 'What if God hasn't given us a watertight argument, but a watertight person?"" As we discussed this morning that words about Jesus are good & important but what people need is an encounter with the Good Shepherd. One glimpse of his kindness, One drop of His mercy changes everything. It is not knowing more about him that changes us but instead when he "finds us" and pursues in all of our mess, guilt, shame, wandering that shifts everything. We wanted to give this song a hymn like feel with a powerful chorus.
Its funny I have always wanted to write a song from Psalm 23 and have never been able to but now two days in a row God is bringing me to Psalm 23 to press in & write from. I have really enjoyed sitting in this Psalm. God is reminding me to be led by Him & that he can provide all that is needed for every day.
LYRICS
Verse 1
My faithful shepherd leads me
What then shall I fear
Thought Im prone to wandering
His kindness draws me near
Verse 2
Though I walk through valleys
No evil shall I fear
Your gentle hand will guide
Your presence ever near
CHORUS
You found me
You called me out
You Silenced my fears & my doubts
Now Im finding my way with you
O Good Shepherd
I Trust You
Verse 3
Now my soul finds rest in you
I have all I need
No Treasure of this world could bring
The joy you bought for me
Bridge
Surely goodness & mercy will follow me all of my days
I am yours forever, O lead me in your ways
