Submission TitleCome to Life

Short Description (for preview in feed)

Over the years as a trauma critical care nurse and now trauma surgery nurse practitioner, I have encountered so many stories. Stories of triumph, loss, devastation, miracles, joy, sorrow. The list could go on and on. Here's my attempt to bring you into some of those stories, into moments that are seared into my memory forever. People whose faces I could never forget.

NameCourtney Strifler

Full Description
She made stories
come to life
on stage,
but this is a story
she never wanted to tell.

She never could have seen him coming,
never could have avoided
that moment
when everything went black.

She wouldn't remember me,
or the tubes,
or the sounds,
the many voices,
the tears shed over her.

She wouldn't remember
the agony of decisions
that could have made
the difference between
her life and her death.

She wouldn't remember
her children sobbing at her bedside,
afraid to come close,
not knowing if mom
would ever be "mom" again.

But over time,
she remembered you,
her children
- her greatest joys.

She may not remember me,
but I will never forget her.

This story started in total darkness,
but,
in the light,
she came back to life.
